Community

Mental health problems and poor mental wellbeing can profoundly affect every aspect of a person’s life — from their relationships and work to their overall sense of self. The impact is often deeply distressing, not only for individuals but also for families and entire communities.

Good mental health is the foundation of a healthy, functioning society. When mental illness goes untreated or unsupported, it comes at a high cost — to individuals, the economy, and the health and social care system. It can lead to reduced productivity, increased reliance on services, and the need for more intensive care.

In the UK, the cost of mental ill health is estimated at around £118 billion annually, with nearly £101 billion in England alone. This represents approximately 5% of the UK’s GDP — a stark reminder of the scale and seriousness of the issue.

Despite this, mental health continues to be a neglected priority across the world. It remains low on the agenda for many policymakers and funders, both nationally and internationally. While there are signs of progress, funding opportunities for essential services like ours remain scarce and highly competitive. Larger, national organisations are often prioritised for financial support, leaving smaller providers at a disadvantage despite the critical work they do.

In the early planning stages of our organisation, one of the most important decisions we faced was whether to register as a charity. Ultimately, we decided against it due to the instability and unpredictability of funding streams. We didn’t want to find ourselves in a situation where we could offer all our services to the community for free one year, only to lose that ability the next because funding had dried up.

Unfortunately, this is the reality for many wellbeing organisations and community-focused groups across the country — and it's one of the reasons we’re seeing a steady decline in local support services.

Instead, we chose to structure ourselves as a private limited company, while operating as a non-profit. This approach gives us more control and flexibility over our operations while allowing us to stay true to our mission. After covering essential costs such as staffing and operational expenses, all additional funds — whether from grants, local business sponsorships, or self-funded clients — are reinvested directly back into the organisation. This enables us to sustain and expand our community services and provide free mental health support to those who need it most.

We are in the midst of a mental health crisis. The scale and severity of poor mental health are rapidly escalating, yet far too many people are still not receiving the support they need. One of the major barriers — among others — is the chronic lack of funding and resources.

The system is stretched to its limits. Without urgent intervention, the situation will only deteriorate further. This would be devastating for those already struggling and for the communities that rely on accessible, effective mental health support.

Our organisation exists to meet these growing needs head-on. We place our community at the heart of everything we do, providing vital preventative services for both adults and children.

We offer a safe, welcoming space where the most vulnerable can come to learn, heal, and grow — supporting not only recovery but resilience and long-term wellbeing.

Local businesses are more than just places to shop or receive services — they are a vital part of the community’s identity and wellbeing. Their success is deeply connected to the support they receive from local residents, and giving back is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen that bond.

At the same time, we understand first-hand how challenging and costly it can be to grow and promote a business. That’s why we’re offering a unique business sponsorship opportunity — one that allows you to advertise your business through our platforms, while also directly supporting the mental health and wellbeing needs of your local community, including its most vulnerable members.

What's in it for you?

The importance of local community engagement is often underestimated. However, building strong relationships within your local area — and supporting fellow businesses — is a powerful strategy for enhancing brand visibility, fostering customer loyalty, and driving sustainable growth.

Engaging with your local community does more than boost your reputation. It creates authentic, meaningful connections that can lead to long-term success. Supporting community services isn’t just about making donations — it’s about building trust, contributing to lasting change, and becoming a valued part of the community’s fabric.

By actively participating in and supporting initiatives that benefit local residents, businesses show a genuine commitment to social responsibility and wellbeing. This not only sets your brand apart from competitors but also builds loyalty and encourages positive word-of-mouth — both powerful drivers of repeat business.

Community engagement also offers valuable insight into local customer needs, preferences, and behaviours. These insights can shape product development, improve marketing strategies, and ensure your services remain relevant and responsive.

In addition, supporting local services opens the door to new networking opportunities and potential partnerships with other businesses and organisations. These collaborations can create shared value and collective impact — benefitting everyone involved.
